The Inclusive Leadership Programme

To lead is to belong. To belong is to lead.

One-to-one work with individual leaders over six to nine months, built on how you lead, how it is experienced, and the practice that closes the distance between the two.

What it is

A title is an afternoon's work for an organisation. Leadership is not. It is conferred, slowly, by the people around you: the colleague who brings you the problem she didn't have to bring, the team member who contradicts you because he trusts it will be heard. Leadership lives in other people's experience of you. Inclusive leadership means taking responsibility for that experience, and leading in a way that lets the people you lead belong. That is the work of this programme.

Four foundations

Inclusion
Who speaks in your meetings, and who has learned to stay quiet? Widen that circle and better thinking enters the room.
Relationality
People do not give their honest thinking to a job title. They give it to someone they trust. So we work on how you listen, what happens when you are contradicted, and what people have learned about bringing you bad news.
Authenticity
A performed leadership style exhausts you, and people can tell. We build yours from who you actually are, including the part most programmes avoid: what you are for. Purpose is not a separate module here. It is the spine of the thing.
Creativity
New ideas arrive half-formed and fragile. They survive where it is safe to offer them. Psychological safety is the best-documented condition for that, and a leader builds it, or quietly destroys it, every week.

How the work goes

How you’re experienced
Structured conversations with the people around you, alongside your own account of how you lead. The useful material is usually the gap between the two. We do not proceed on self-report alone.
Building the practice
Months of one-to-one work. Teaching where it helps, coaching where it goes deeper. Your real week is the raw material.
Until it’s yours
The aim is embodiment: you lead differently because the practice has become how you lead. We check that at review points agreed at the start.

The evidence, stated honestly

Companies whose management teams are above-average in diversity report 45% of revenue from products launched in the past three years, against 26% for their peers, with EBIT margins up to nine points higher — BCG, How Diverse Leadership Teams Boost Innovation (2018), a study of more than 1,700 companies in eight countries.
Inclusive leaders report 17% higher team performance, 20% better decision quality and 29% more collaboration, and leaders account for up to 70 percentage points of the difference in whether employees feel belonging and psychological safety — Harvard Business Review, What Makes an Inclusive Leader? (2023).

Both studies report correlation, and the first measures the diversity of leadership teams rather than any single programme. We want to be straight about that. So the programme measures your change against your own baseline, agreed at the start. Those are the only numbers we will ever quote to you.

Practicalities

Typically six to nine months, meeting regularly, one-to-one. Practice takes time to develop; that is the point. If your situation calls for a shorter arc, we adapt the shape and keep the method. Team-wide leadership development sits under Training and can be added where it makes sense.
